Weekend trip to Malacca: Pictures and video
I was in Malacca for a one-day trip recently and here are some pictures and a video for you to enjoy. In general Malacca is a nice historical state to visit. The city is clean and there are a lot of things you can do in Malacca.
We stopped at the city center and walked around near the river and Jonker Street. You can take a river boat tour there however the river is not too pleasant to the eyes. We gave that one a miss.
You can also hire a nicely decorated trishaw that will take you around the city of Malacca for just RM40 (around USD12) per hour.
We also visited the Portuguese settlement and found out there was nothing much there. All the Portuguese restaurants were closed at noon and even if they were open, I am not sure if the eatery shops were halal. There is a new hotel called Lisbon Hotel…. from the outside it looks reasonably good. The rates were also not expensive …. around RM 150 per night.
Then we went to Malacca Zoo. We enjoyed ourselves at the zoo. Here is the video of the animals we saw…
We had lunch at Asam Pedas Selera kampung Restaurant and it was so good. The favourites were fried ayam kampung, freshly cooked) and of course the fish asam pedas. The food were tasty and the prices were reasonable …… highly recommended.
Our dinner at the ‘floating’ ikan bakar restaurants complex in Umbai were not good at all. It was an anti-climax and a bad ending to an otherwise a great day in Malacca. Although the grilled siakap and stingray were fresh, the chilly (sambal) and ‘air asam’ that came with it were big disappointments. We also ordered mixed tom yam and it was the worst tom yam we ever had in our entire life… I will not set our foot again in that restaurant. However I will not hesitate to try another ikan bakar session at the old jetty where we used to have a good dinner long time ago.
There wer so many other places to visit and things to do in Malacca but we could not do it all as we decided not to stay overnight in Malacca. If you reserve the entire weekend, that should be enough to cover most of these interesting places if not all. We hope to visit Malacca again in the future.
