VK Lingam’s video: Gerakan urges the Government to consider royal commission?

by CJCM on October 7th, 2007

Gerakan Chief Koh Tsu Koon asking Pak Lah to consider royal commissionIt is a slap in the face for Pak Lah and the other gang in the BN-coalition. This Gerakan Chief at least has the guts to tell Pak Lah to get real and live in real world…. but I am not sure how Pak Lah would take this. It would be interesting to see the next development following this call by Koh Tsu Koon. But knowing Pak Lah, it is probably safe to assume nothing will happen from this call by Gerakan.

On the other hand, is there some hidden agenda by Gerakan that it goes out of its way to present a different and opposite view from Government’s stand with regards to VK Lingam’s video? I wil let your thought run wild on that…but do let us know in the comment area if you can think of anything.

Gerakan today called on the government to “seriously consider” the setting up of a royal commission to investigate the explosive ‘judicial appointments fixing’ video clip.

It became the first BN component party to come out strongly on the clip, which has ignited an uproar within the legal fraternity and among the public since it was exposed on Sept 19 by PKR’s Anwar Ibrahim.

The VK Lingam’s video is indeed interesting. The video helped to show the people not only to see how bad the Malaysia’s judicial system is compromised, but it also shows, now, how ACA’s credibility is also questionable.

ACA should investigate the content of the video clip and the persons mentioned in it instead of targeting whistle-blowers.

This was the message to the anti-corruption agency today from the Steering Committee to Free the Judiciary, an ad hoc umbrella group comprising various rights organisations.

“The source of the video clip should not be the ACA’s utmost concern. The ACA should quickly called in the persons mentioned in the video, as they have been implicated in very serious allegations of corrupt practices and abuse of power,” said Yap Swee Seng, executive director of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) - the secretariat organisation for the umbrella group.

Is there, then, any wonder the public is placing less and less trust on the BN Government, the police and now the ACA?
