The Malaysia Boleh Series
Looking back at what had transpired in my beloved country, Malaysia, for the past few weeks, months and years or so, I am really having mixed feelings about the state of affair of this country I call home. Malaysia is really an amazing place to be for various reasons. The first and foremost, the one that I have always been proud of to be part of Malaysia, is how beautiful this country is from the geographical point of view. From Perlis to Johor and all the way to Sabah, there is no denying of the fact that our country, Malaysia, offers outstanding beauty with high mountains, beautiful island and beaches, rustic and yet nostalgic villages spread across all over the country, not forgetting to mention also the hustles and bustles of modern cities… just to name a few. Cultural wise, Malaysia also offers wide variety of different, interesting and uniques cultures for the world to learn, enjoy and even to be part of it.
From economic opportunity perspective, Malaysia is definitely another place where investors and businessmen, local or foreign, with lots of cash wanting to generate yet more cash, would want to be. Transformed from an agricultural-based economy to a high-technology industrial-based economy, Malaysia offers abundance of opportunities to those who are willing to take the risks and reap the benefits in developing this nation we call Malaysia.
Malaysia has transformed from a country where the rest of the world used to ask “Malaysia? Where is that?” or when I had to explain to my foreigner friends that Malaysia is just up north neighbouring an island called Singapore where they would reply and say…ohhh Singapore… yeah I know where Singapore is but never heard of Malaysia (sigh), to a country that has dotted the world map with lots of outstanding achievements, thanks to the never ending efforts of the past and present Malaysian Government’s to develop, promote and sell Malaysia to the rest of the world. The Malaysian Government is so proud of this nation’s achievements that the term Malaysia Boleh was introduced many years back to encourage more Malaysians to work even harder and achieve more feats never before imagined by many Malaysians.
Malaysia Boleh spirit however has two sides of the stories. One side is the Malaysia Boleh achievements that make all Malaysians stand proud to be part of this great nation…. I don’t have to dwell much into these kinds of positive stories of Malaysia Boleh because I am sure many of us Malaysians already know and aware of these achievements…. lots of them centered around ‘The highest…’, ‘The first Malaysian….’, ‘The longest…’ and so on.
Sadly, there is another side of the Malaysian Boleh that makes Malaysians feeling shy and disgraced…. which I also don’t have to go in great details here for many of us are already aware of such Malaysia Boleh feats that we rather not talk about for various reasons.
However, what I would like to do next, is to start documenting those Malaysian Boleh events and feats, positive and negatives regardless, right here in this blog Kuala Lumpur is Home (a new category Malaysia Boleh is already created) so that all current and future Malaysian generations know and aware of such Malaysia Boleh records.
I am not sure if there was such an effort to centrally record all Malaysia Boleh happenings ever attempted by anyone before, but at the risk of being critized negatively or otherwise, I now announce Kuala Lumpur Is Home as the first Malaysian blog to document all Malaysian Boleh feats, positive or otherwise. I stand to be corrected if this announcement can be proven wrong.
If you are wondering why would someone be bothered to do this…. I have no specific answers to that but all I want to do is for all Malaysians to be proud of our country Malaysia with the positive side of Malaysia Boleh stories. At the same time, I would also like for all Malaysians to know the negative side of Malaysia Boleh stories and learn whatever lessons we can derive from such events so that we, current and future Malaysian generations, can avoid such mistakes in the future, all for the good name of our country we call Malaysia.
To do this, I definitely need supports and assistance from all supportive Malaysian internet-citizens, including those at Malaysiakini to help identify all those Malaysia Boleh news, positive or negative. You can do so by commenting on this post or you can contact me using our contact form to let me know of any event (past, present or future) that you think can be classified as Malaysia Boleh event, positive or otherwise.
I would also appreciate if you can spread this news (you can use the ‘Email This Post’ link at the end of this post) to all your friends and relatives to support Kuala Lumpur Is Home in its attempt for this first Malaysia Boleh record. You can also subscribe to our RSS news feed to get the latest updates and news from Kuala Lumpur Is Home. We can also deliver news and updates directly to your email. Thank you for your support…. yes Malaysia Boleh.
