From past experiences, by-elections have always been seen as buy-elections by many quarters except the government. During by-elections, there are tonnes of money poured by the government in the forms of development projects, allocations, donations to poor people, long standing land applications that are suddenly approved and what not.

It’s not that we should be complaining about the new lower petrol and diesel prices just announced by the ‘people-caring’ (notice the inverted quotes?) Flip-Flop BN Government… but its the flip flop decision-making from the flip flop BN Government lead by Mr Nice-Flip-Flop-Guy that we all should worry about.
Didn’t Mr Nice-Flip-Flop-Guy’s BN Government say that any new fuel price will only be effected from September 1 and that no new price will be announced prior to September 1? The decision do effect new prices only on September 1 (or I assume on every 1st of the month for that …read more

It is now confirmed. Anwar Ibrahim will be charged in court tomorrow, 7th August 2008, for sodomy offence. It will be a much awaited event as Anwar is now expected to contest in a by-election for the parlimentary seat of Permatang Pauh.
The seat had been vacated by his wife Wan Azizah who had been holding the forte there since Anwar was sacked, also for sodomy allegation by Mahathir, way back in 1998. The nomination date for the by-election had been set on 16th August 2008 and if there is a contest, the by-election will be held on 26th August …read more
