Non-Muslims have to inform their families before converting to Islam
Malaysian Government finally got it right with this long standing issue that had caused so much havoc between the families of Muslim converts and the authorities. If what is being planned proceed smoothly, non-Muslims who have found new faith and would like to convert to Islam will have to inform their families first before converting to Islam.
Why this was never thought of before is really puzzling but now that it will be implemented soon, the regulation would prevent problems of families disputing the conversion of their loved ones when they finally leave this world.

I’m just wondering how this might affect people who don’t have a relationship with their family? Also “inform” seems kind of vague, can the potential convert send a letter and is that considered ok and how will they prove that they informed their family? Espeically if the family isn’t happy about the change in faith. These are just a fewproblems I can see with such a rule and that’s without really thinking about it, I’m sure there are many more and I don’t really understand why this is necessary. Maybe you can explain this more clearly.
CJCM: Bellie, thx for sharing your view. I totally agree… “inform” is such a simplistic word used here. Lets hope when the government finally enacted the law to this effect, there will be clearer provisions as to what is acceptable as ‘inform”. The whole intention is, just so that there will be no dispute between all parties as to the status of the converted Muslim should he died. The issue of family should not arise because I am sure the person who converted to Islam fully aware of what he was doing and that the family should respect his or her decision, if not fully in support of one’s right.
