Malaysia Boleh: Limkokwing University of Creative Technology a Malaysian-brand education abroad

Malaysia Boleh - Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing - Branding Malaysia abroadWhile other universities in Malaysia have been busy trying to attract international students to Malaysia, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) has been busy selling Malaysian-brand education abroad. The man responsible behind this brave move is none other than Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, the founder of LUCT. So far, LUCT has set up campuses in London, United Kingdom, and Gaborone, Botswana, in addition to a learning centre in Beijing in cooperation with Tsing Hua University and another in Jakarta.

Malaysia Boleh - Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT)In the pipelines, there will be more LUCT campuses in New York and Phnom Penh, and collaborative programmes with six state universities and institutions in Russia.

Malaysia’s international tertiary education is definitely taking a different shape. Traditionally, our universities used to offer international qualifications right here in Malaysia in partnership and collaboration with top foreign universities from USA, UK, Australia and a few other countries well known for exporting their tertiary education to the world. But LUCT preferred to take a different approach. Instead of importing foreign education to Malaysia, LUCT pionered the exportation of Made-in-Malaysia education abroad.

When asked for the reasons behind his move, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing responded:

“I suppose after receiving so many foreign students over the years, we have established a reputation for ourselves,” he says.

“We have content that the world wants to buy.

“As you know, our focus is creativity, and we have never left our home ground.

“Our courses continue to attract the next generation. We provide a very dynamic learning environment and are business-oriented,”

This man is doing the right thing while everyone else in this industry is parroting the government’s strategy in words and strategic documents. LUCT is the way the education industry in Malaysia is going to flag itself and in positioning the country for the next economic wave.
