Kien Keat-Boon Heong ended Malaysia’s 25-year wait for men’s double title

Kien Keat and Boon Heong, Malaysia's latest heroes!!At last, the 25-year drought in Malaysian badminton has ended when national doubles hotshots Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong ended China’s Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng domination at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. It was the Malaysians second win over the world champion and defending champion… bringing a sweet sense of victory for both the pairs and the country.

For records, both players had bag three titles in just five tournaments over a period of five months, an incredible feat for any pair by any standards. Now that the All England doubles title is already theirs, the prospect of giving a Malaysia’s first gold medal in the Beijing Olympics next year looks brighter but in the world of sport, anything can happen. I would like to ask all Malaysians to hold their breath for now to give some breathing space to the duo that had made Malaysia a force to be reckoned with, again, in badminton world. Malaysia last won the title 25 years ago through Sidek’s brothers Jalani and Razif.

Congratulation to Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong… you are our heroes!!
