Hmmmm yummy…. Laksa Penang

by CJCM on February 22nd, 2007

Laksa Penang..hmmm yummyI had reached home a little earlier than usual today and was pleasantly surprised by my wife who had cooked Laksa Penang. It has been a while since we had Laksa Penang at home. Laksa Penang is undoubtedly one of the most popular local food here in Malaysia and it is enjoyed by both Malaysian and foregners alike.

If you are foreigners still learning about Malaysian food, you might be wondering what is Laksa Penang? Well, here is Wiki’s explanation about Laksa Penang:

Penang laksa, also known as assam laksa from the Malay for tamarind, comes from the Malaysian island of Penang. It is made with mackerel (ikan kembung) soup and its main distinguishing feature is the assam or tamarind which gives the soup a sour taste. The fish is poached and then flaked. Other ingredients that give Penang laksa its distinctive flavour include lemongrass, galangal (lengkuas) and chilli. Typical garnishes include mint, pineapple slices, thinly sliced onion, hε-ko, a thick sweet prawn paste and use of torch ginger flower

Laksa Penang....all time Malaysian favouriteHmmm…its so nice and I am telling you I am enjoying this Laksa Penang that my beloved wife just cooked as I am typing this blog post…. don’t you wish you were here as well?

But let me tell you a little open secret. If any of you or your friends are visiting Kuala Lumpur soon, there is a place really easy to find for good taste and cheap Laksa Penang right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. But it has to be a Friday though. That’s because the nice and yummy Laksa Penang I am talking about is available at the National Mosque food stalls which only opens on Friday to cater for Friday prayers in the city of Kuala Lumpur. There is only one Laksa Penang stall there you won’t miss it. At RM3.00 (less
than USD1) per plate it is really good deal for Laksa Penang that good.

But hey…if you happened not to be in Kuala Lumpur by Friday…which I don’t know why in the first place because there are a lot to see in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and Sunday… don’t despair. You can still enjoy lots of Laksa Penang at many stalls around Kuala Lumpur and throughout Malaysia. If you fancy dining in a little bit upmarket food joint, you should not miss the laksa at Laksa Shack where you can find all varieties of laksa under one roof. Check out a few blogs here and here about their experience at Laksa Shack.

If you love cooking and would like to try cooking the meal yourself, here is a recipe for Laksa Penang.

I love this dish! But my favorites are Nasi Lemak, Kankung Belacan, and Pandan Chicken then finish it off with Pulut Hitam. You’re making me hungry…

Do u ever try pak ngah laksa kuala kangsar. It doesn’t look very elegant and neat if you compare them to Laksa Shack in KL. It is indeed very different from the rest like penang laksa,It was not too creamy, not too spicy… it was just simple and original. lastime only can get the pak ngah laksa in kuala kangsar but now we oso can get it from kl. no need go too far till kuala kangsar.Last week i went to selayang pasar is shock and excited tat 2 c a pamphlet pak ngah laksa kuala kangsar in town.they offering 4 bussiness ppl even though we r not business ppl oso can get d same price. The price is quite cheap n reasonable onli need RM10 per kg+soup n they oso got offering feast onli need RM12 per kg+soup+eggs.jz need to call by fon 0122999647.they got deliver in certain place.
