Gopalan Nair: Arrested and charged in Singapore court
Gopalan Nair, a California-based blogger, had been arrested and charged in a Singapore court. His offence?
According to a court document, Nair is charged with insulting Justice Belinda Ang Saw Ean last Thursday by sending an email which said she “was throughout prostituting herself during the entire proceedings, by being nothing more than an employee of Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his son and carrying out their orders”.

In his blog post where he gave his telephone number and the name of the hotel he was staying in, Gopalan wrote:
“Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, look here. I am now within your jurisdiction…. What are you going to do about it?”
Well… not a smart thing to do I guess but he surely did ask for it… kind of.
Gopalan, a lawyer who became a US citizen after giving up his Singaporean citizenship in 2005, had been charged for insulting a public servant which carries a maximum fine of SGD 5,000 (USD 3,660) or one year in prison upon conviction.
