Fuel prices: Fooling the people around
They keep fooling us around, don’t they? I am talking about the government and Malaysian business entities in general, especially the large conglomerate here in this Bolehland.
Remember when the world crude oil price shot up past USD120 per barrel? We, the country, made money… lots of money because we are a net oil exporter country. But the government, despite numerous protests, went ahead and raised the fuel price with a whoping 40% increase. We were devastated. Everything went up and yet those in Putrajaya were still saying the increase should not affect daily lives. Who were they trying to kid here?
Now the world crude oil price is hoovering at around USD50+ and what does the Bolehland government want to do? Introducing a floor price for fuel? That means no matter how low the world crude oil price goes down to, we Malaysian will always pay higher than market price? WTF?
To add salt to injuries, one highway operator that had been making tones of money out of Malaysian motorists, offered a discount of 10% only to certain classes of vehicles but you have to sacrifice your night sleep to enjoy the discount. They are treating Malaysians like beggars. WTF?
And guess what, after ignoring our protests that the fuel price should not be hiked, or should be hiked slowly, now the same government is crying out loud telling the businesses that the prices of goods must come down too. Well, one business association responded positively but that was also like ‘melepas batuk di tangga’ where only the prices of roti canai was reduced by 10 sen and the prices of ‘nasi kandar’ was supposed to go down by 20 sen. Mind you, there is no set price of nasi kandar in the first place so how the heck we are to be sure that the prices are indeed decreased. Ohhh… did I tell you that even then, it is not compulsory for the restaurants to comply? WTF?
Why do we allow ourselves to be fooled over and over again?
