Flood Hit Malaysia’s Southern State of Johor

It’s monsoon season as usual in Malaysia around this time of the year but this year’s effect of the wet spell had been amplified by Typhoon Utor, which had struck the Philippines recently. The after-effect of the thyphoon is believed to have caused heavy rainfall and stronger-than-usual winds that had hit major parts of Malaysia.
Johor, a southern state of Malaysia bordering Singapore, is hardest hit thus far. Major towns in Johor is now submerged under water and a total of 26,000 had been reported evacuated as of yesterday. Other states are also not spared but the conditions in Malaccan, Negeri Sembilan adn Pahang are not as bad. A total of 45,000 have been evacuated nationwide as of yesterday.
From my personal point of view, eventhough the rainy seasons and Thypoon Utor are seens as partial causes of the disaster, the effect could have been contained much better had there been proper drainage and more controlled development of the affected areas. I hope the government agencies responsible for the enforcement of such measures would accept the fact and get their act together rather than just blaming the nature. Let’s pray and hope that the situation will get better in the next few days so that those affected can return home as soon as possible.
