Siti Khadijah Wet Market in Kota Bharu, Kelantan

Kelantan FlagThis is just a brief history of where I was before I call Kuala Lumpur is Home. I was born in the eastern state of Kelantan where I grew up until I left my home town to pursue my tertiary study in Melbourne, Australia at the age of 19. For those of you who may not be familiar with state, Kelantan is very well known for its Siti Khadijah Wet Market, where almost all (99%) of the traders there are women.

Before departing for Australia, I had spent six months undergoing an intensive English course at the then Mara Institute of Technology in Kuala Lumpur. After the 6-month English course, I head for Victoria, Australia where I spent the next 5 years studying for my Victorian HSC at Mc Kinnon High School and Bachelor of Science (Computer Science and Information System) at Deakin University.

Upon my graduation in December 1989, I came back to my home town Kelantan for a very brief period, after which I had to head back to Kuala Lumpur to start hunting for job. I started my first job in Kuala Lumpur in 1990 and had been living in Kuala Lumpur ever since.

However, being employed in the IT industry, I had to travel a lot. During my employment with various IT companies, I had travelled to many foreign countries : Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sweden, United States, Sri Lanka, Australia, Brunei, and Indonesia. While most of those business travels involved short stays, I had spent a year each in Brunei, Thailand, Sri Lanka and 6 months in Indonesia.

It was during this period that I got really sick of travelling, missing home and family so much that I finally quit my job to return home permanently. I still think there is no place like home and there is no home like Kuala Lumpur.
