Anti-price hike rally venue and date changed

by CJCM on June 19th, 2008

Kg Baru anti-price hike rally gathered 2000 protestersThe 1-million-people rally being organized by Anti-fuel Price Hike Protest Coalition (Protes) was originally scheduled to happened on July 12. Then for tactical reasons, the date was brought forward to July 5th. In yet another instance, the date has been changed again and the venue is also now different from the original location around KLCC.

So if you are planning to register your displeasure regarding the recent fuel price hike and would like to be part of the 1-million protesters expected to join the rally, the new date and venue is July 6, a Sunday, at the Jalan Timur field in Petaling Jaya.

Making the announcement today at the PAS headquarters, Dr Hatta Ramly of the Anti-fuel Price Hike Protest Coalition (Protes) said the changes were to encourage more people to participate.

It would also not disrupt businesses at KLCC, a well-known shopping and commercial area at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, added the PAS Kuala Krai MP.

“There is a wide vacant field at Jalan Timur and it would be apt for the rally to be held there so that traffic congestion can be avoided as well to provide sufficient security for the participants.

“It is also a strategic and convenient location for those using the federal highway and it is also close to an LRT station,” said Hatta (right).
