Shahrir more concerned about the welfare of businessmen than the rakyat?
Shahrir’s latest statement on the issue of petrol price is totally absurd, coming from a federal minister who had been appointed to take care of the welfare of the people. Instead, this UMNO Baru/BN minister , seems to be more concerned about the survival of the select few petrol dealers than alleviating the suffering of the people at large, many of whom live in the rural areas totally dependent on fuel for daily lives.
The minimum price of petrol should be RM1.92 per litre even if the global oil price continues to fall, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said.
He said this would bring some stability to the retail price of petrol and minimise losses by petrol station owners.
Setting a minimum price would also enable the Government to reduce its subsidy on petrol if the global price fell further.
“The upper limit will be RM2.70 and it is my feeling that this is the optimal range,” Shahrir said when commenting on the losses petrol station dealers face whenever the price of petrol is reduced.

As you can see, he doesn’t care even if the world oil price goes lower, that should not be passed to the rakyat. Instead, higher price will be maintained just so that some businessmen could survive… the rakyat can suffer, Sharir doesn’t care. This is so typical of UMNO Baru/BN mentality. It is always the rakyat who had to pay the price. Never mind the fact that those businessmen should know what they are getting into and that they should have the gut to face the business risk when they decide to enter the business world.
Poor those constituents who had elected Sharir in the last general election.
