RPK, Theresa Kok, Tan: Another black day for Malaysia

Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Theresa Kok, Tan Hoon ChengThree people arrested under ISA. Raja Petra Kamaruddin, or RPK as he is popularly known, arrested for comments allegedly insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad that had appeared in his blog Malaysia Today. Bear in mind, weeks before his ISA arrest, RPK had published explosive article linking certain high profile individuals to the Altantuya murder case. The article that contained allegedly offensive comments which caused his site to be banned by the authority and subsequently his arrest under ISA, co-incidently, had been published very much earlier in the famous news blog that had attracted millions of visitors all over the world. Take note again, it is NOT the article that had landed RPK into trouble, but the comments in the same article.

As for Theresa Kok… she was arrested under ISA for creating public disorder and problems. Her arrest obviously was linked to the recent residents petition in Puchong over an azan issue. Theresa however had denied any involvement in the issue. The mosque officials and residents themselves had denied the allegation and explained that the silent ‘azan’ was caused by faulty PA system and not because of pressure of non-Muslims. For record, this issue was started by Khir Toyo and a police report had been lodged against him for stirring up the azan issue. Interestingly, it can be deduced that the person who had started this trouble is none other than Khir Toyo himself but Theresa Kok is the one who had to pay the price.

If you find these two cases mind boggling, you are in for a great surprise and disbelief when it comes to journalist Tan Hoon Cheng case. She was arrested under ISA because… hold your breadth…. here life was threatened after she reported on Bukit Bendera Division Umno Chairman Ahmad Ismail’s allegedly racist remarks. You see… Ahmad Ismail created the furore, got away with just a three-year-suspension from his party, escaped punishment from any law and poor Tan Hoon Cheng instead arrested under ISA for reporting the truth. Tan Hoon Cheng had since been released.

What has happened to Malaysian government, ministers and law enforcement agencies? Haunted by September 16?
