Budget 2008: RM20 free electricity, a copy-cat yet disappointing

BN Government’s RM20 worth of free electricity in the latest Budget 2008 is clearly a direct attempt to emulate what had been done by a Pakatan Rakyat state government recently but in the PR case, it is free water. While I can see the free electricity allocation positively, it is yet disappointing.

In the first place, PR gave RM20 free water, the BN is giving RM20 free electricity… but wait… is it really for all? While the scheme is still sketchy as it is just announced, at this first glance.. it is not really a scheme for all.

While the PR scheme gives RM20 worth of free water regardless of the bill amount, the BN Government’s copy-cat scheme gives RM20 worth of free electricity only if your electricity bill is less than RM20.

Free electricity

Those whose use less than RM20 of electricity per month will not be charged.

You see the difference?

Come on Pak Lah, you could have done better. Why not give free electricity to all and make it RM50 instead of RM20? Even then, it’s still a copy-cat, a clue that should make the people realize, this BN Government is not capable of coming up with its own idea for the betterment of the people. Remember the 60-day maternity leave policy by Kelantan PAS Government? It wasn’t long after that the BN also adopted the same policy.

Why would someone keep voting this type of government? God knows!

I hope to write more on other points of the Cling-on to power Budget 2008 by the sinking BN Government.
