Restoring judiciary: Pak Lah just doesn’t get it

First of all, Pak Lah knows how bad the state of Malaysia judiciary after the sacking of Tun Mohd Salleh Abas and the rest of the judges who had not danced along with the executives at that time in 1988. The fact that he knew something went wrong in the judiciary was very clear otherwise he would not have offered the ex-gratia payment, the judicial apppointments commission and last but not least, the review of judiciary’s terms of services and remuneration. But yet, Pak Lah still doesn’t get it.

Dear Pak Lah, what the people want is the total reform of the judiciary. What that means is a royal inquiry to investigate the entire fiasco surrounding the 1988 sacking of the judges and bring to book all those involved in the shameful act of destroying the credibility of our judiciary. The royal commission to be established should also be given widest terms of reference to enable it to conduct a thorough investigation without fear or favour. That can only happens if the members of the royal commission consists of people of high calibre with good moral standing from the judiciary point of view.

That is the kind of royal commission the Malaysian people want, Pak lah. Not the kind of toothless commission you set up to investigate the “correct correct correct” VK Lingam video affair which had not produced any result up until today.

Pak Lah, the three major steps to be taken by your government shows that the previous government (which you were part of) had done something terribly wrong and yet you say no apology needed? Is this what is preached in your Islam Hadhari?

Now I am not sure what were the reactions of the affected judges about the ex-gratia payments, but if I were one of them, I’d say thank you Pak Lah but I am not a little kid who can be bought with some sweets. What happened in 1988 was a total disgrace to the nation until this day and only a full investigation by a trustworthy royal commission can redeem the tainted image of our judiciary…. only then we can talk about ex-gratia payments.

What say you?
