Restoring judiciary: Pak Lah just doesn’t get it

Restoring judiciary: Pak Lah just doesn’t get it

First of all, Pak Lah knows how bad the state of Malaysia judiciary after the sacking of Tun Mohd Salleh Abas and the rest of the judges who had not danced along with the executives at that time in 1988. The fact that he knew something went wrong in the judiciary was very clear otherwise he would not have offered the ex-gratia payment, the judicial apppointments commission and last but not least, the review of judiciary’s terms of services and remuneration. But yet, Pak Lah still doesn’t get it.
Dear Pak Lah, what the people want is the total reform of …read more

Chalet Mesra at Pengkalan Balak, Malacca

Chalet Mesra at Pengkalan Balak, Malacca

A reader of my blog sent me an email with a link to a chalet in Malacca. Mesra Chalet is located in Pangkalan Balak, Masjid Tanah, Malacca. I have been to Pengkalan Balak a couple of times quite a long time ago but I can’t remember which chalet I had stayed in at that time. From the look of this photo, I suspect that I probably I had stayed in this chalet before but my memory can’t recall this for sure.
Regardless of whether I had stayed or not at Mesra Chalet before, I like this chalet because it is facing …read more

Adopting new media for the wrong reasons

Adopting new media for the wrong reasons

I had blogged about how BN is so lousy at adopting new media such as blogs. This is because they are doing it for the wrong reasons. Prior to 12th general election, BN had setup a BN 2008 Campaign site and you can read my comment about how pathetic the site was. I also mentioned about how BN had taken off the interactive features of the new electronic media offered by blogs and online media in that campaign site.
Fast forward to post 12th general election, BN politicians seem to be racing with each other to set up their own blogs, …read more

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry will review private hospitals’ charges for room, equipment and medicine, which many have said are excessive.
Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said he would instruct the director-general to set up a committee to conduct a thorough study on the issue of private hospitals’ fees.

April 14 2008: A start of new Malaysia Part 1

April 14 2008: A start of new Malaysia Part 1

As planned, I was at the Sultan Sulaiman Club last night. I reached Kg Baru just in time for Maghrib prayer at the Kg Baru mosque and looking at the crowds performing the prayers there last night, I knew another large crowds will be gathering at the Sultan Sulaiman Club. As usual, the policemen were everywhere. What a waste of time and money.

In side the club, the crowd started to build up quite fast. The emcee announced that the field could easily accomodate 15,000 and looking at the number of people at the rally last night, I’d say it was …read more

UMNO Youth monkeys in the making.

UMNO Youth monkeys in the making.

UMNO always makes silly rule. Remember the quota system, which was introduced by Mahathir long time ago? That was silly but it was important for Mahathir at that time. It was the quota system that he forced upon UMNO members that made him survived a long 20-plus years at the helm of UMNO. But Mahathir ‘Mudah Lupa’ forgot that it was his own quota system that he recently urged to be abolish. Abuse was his reason for urging to let go the tool that he had conveniently used for years to stay in power. This man needs help badly to …read more

Non-Muslims have to inform their families before converting to Islam

Non-Muslims have to inform their families before converting to Islam

Malaysian Government finally got it right with this long standing issue that had caused so much havoc between the families of Muslim converts and the authorities. If what is being planned proceed smoothly, non-Muslims who have found new faith and would like to convert to Islam will have to inform their families first before converting to Islam.
Why this was never thought of before is really puzzling but now that it will be implemented soon, the regulation would prevent problems of families disputing the conversion of their loved ones when they finally leave this world.

Poem: I am a Muslim girl

Poem: I am a Muslim girl

A visitor to my blog has shared this little poem in her response to my recent post. I thought it deserves to be at the main page here at The Kuala Lumpur Traveler’s blog.

I am a Muslim GIRL,
Feel free to ask me why?
When I walk, I walk with dignity,
When I speak I do not lie,
I am a Muslim GIRL,
Not all of me you’ll see,
But what you should appreciate,
Is that the choice I make is free,
I’m not plagued with depression,
I’m neither CHEATED nor ABUSED,
I don’t envy other women,
And I’m certainly not confused,
Note: I speak perfect English,
So you need not to …read more
