Spicy Chicken Steamed Rice in Paka Terengganu

After that shocking landslide victory of Barisan Rakyat over Barisan National last weekend, I made my way back to Kuala Lumpur via the east coast…. so I passed by the Terengganu State. After spending about one hour in Dungun with my son who is studying there, we continue our journey and reached Paka town at about 8.30pm just nice for dinner. I actually planned my trip to arrive in Paka at that time because of this nice 24-hour restaurant in Paka, which is famous for its Spicy Chicken Steamed Rice (Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah).

If you like hot steamed rice served with spicy fried chicken that comes with a very nice and spicy gravy, and you happened to be in Paka, Terengganu…. I strongly suggest that you to try this one out. Or, putting it in the other way around, if you happened to pass by Paka for whatever reason, do stop by at this place, located on the left of the main road just after the bridge as you enter Paka town from Dungun.

The nearest ladmark shop to this place is the 24-hour 7-11 outlet…. very near to the main mosque in Paka. The restaurant is also opened 24-hours so you can actually reach Paka at anytime of the day and still have the chance to taste one of the very best steamed rice I have ever had…. bear in mind there is not many food joints that serve steamed rice in the first place… let alone the one that tastes this good… from my point of view at least.

I do not have the actual photo of the spicy dish but one interesting thing to note here is that regardless of whether you dine-in or take-away, the rice is always served in a take-away packing… so if you decide to dine there…. all you have to do is just open the packing and enjoy your steamed rice there and then. To the shop owner, the issue of washing dirty dishes does not arise at all as all they have to do is to throw away the paper that is used to pack the rice…. how thoughtful.

Be warned though… the curry could be a bit too spicy especially for those who do not enjoy extra spicy food, but you can always ask for less gravy. If you decide to try this meal, do let us know what do you think of your meal there.

I will try to remember to take the picture of the rice next time I eat at the restaurant…. or if any of you have any picture… do mail it to me so that I can post it here.
