GASAK formed, nationwide media-boycot campaign is on the agenda

I read in Malaysiakini that another coalition to counter the lies spread by mainstream media and demand for press freedom and independence had been formed. Appropriatelly named GASAK which stands for Gerakan Anti-Salah Maklumat (literally Movement for Anti Mis-information), the movement will be pressing for three main objectives:
1. Stop the mis-information
2. Balanced reporting for all parties
3. Editorial independence
At the same time GASAK also launched a campaign to boycot the mainstream media that will be promoted nationwide in their effort to educate the public about the lies spread by the Government-controlled media within Malaysia.

Free education in Malaysia?

Free education in Malaysia?

The end-of -year school holiday had started…. but the new school term is fast approaching. The present Malaysian government had, in its latest budget, announced free text-books for all students from next year, and in doing so, proudly told the public, the education in Malaysia is now FREE. Yes.. I agree… but only to the extent of agreeing to the fact that ONLY the text books are free… no more than that. Quite to the controrary, the education will cost even more next year for Malaysian parents. I am sure, I will have to spend at least RM3000 early next …read more

Kevin Rudd on why John Howard lost the 2007 Australian election

Kevin Rudd on why John Howard lost the 2007 Australian election

It is definitely interesting to know that Australia has a new government and a new Prime Minister from the opposition front.
Asked why Mr Howard had lost power, Mr Rudd said it was vital that leaders were honest with voters.
“I think it’s really important with the Australian people to be straight up and down about what you can do and what you can’t do,” he said. “We believe that the core reason we have prevailed in this election is because we’ve outlined an agenda for the future which now becomes our agenda of work. If we prosecute that agenda and …read more

Hindraf protesters defiant, about 20,000 showed up in rally

Police roadblocks, police warnings, arrests of top leaders and the prospects of being arrested, fired with tear gas did not deter about 20,000 of Malaysian Indian to show up at a mass rally organized by Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf). The rally was meant to petition the British High Commission for Her Majesty’s support in their bid to sue the British Government for bringing the Indian labours to Malaysia and exploited them for 150 years. Hindraf is seeking a total of RM14 trillion as compensations.
Kuala Lumpur is under siege again today. The rally, which was supposed to be a peaceful …read more

Weekend trip to Malacca

Weekend trip to Malacca

I will be taking my family (except my son who is in Dungun) for a weekend in Malacca, the Historic City. We have been to this small state of Malacca on short trips before but this time we will stay longer to explore Malacca as much as we can. I have not booked a place to stay yet because I am not sure if we want to stay overnight in Malacca or elsewhere. I have been browsing the net for the last couple of hours looking for some clues of where to go and what to do in Malacca and …read more

HINDRAF causing traffic jam?

HINDRAF causing traffic jam?

Bersih rally had caused Kuala Lumpur traffic reduced to a standstill on Nov 10 2007. Ok… I am not stating the fact quite right. We all knew the fact that the roadblocks by the police force were the main contributors to the massive jam around Kuala Lumpur on that fateful day. I thought that was over… but it seems that the lessons were never learnt. Malaysiakini reported that there were massive traffic jams around Kuala Lumpur yet again. This time Malaysiakini had reported that a police source had revealed that the roadblocks were setup to prevent the Malaysian Indians from …read more

VK Lingam video: Brother vs Brother

VK Lingam video: Brother vs Brother

Well, two months later, Lingam finally broke his silence when he said he will clear his name and will cooperate with royal commission. Why he didn’t say he will clear his name from the very first day he saw the video is anyone’s guess.
What followed up after Pak Lah said yes to the royal commission is even more interresting.
VK Lingam’s estranged brother has made two police reports providing further allegations of judicial corruption and reveal inside information of the senior lawyer’s cozy relationship with top judges, some of whom have since retired.
VK Thirunama Karasu, 49, also claimed …read more

VK Lingam video: Pak Lah says yes to royal commission after 58 days

VK Lingam video: Pak Lah says yes to royal commission after 58 days

It took our beloved Prime Minister Pak Lah a long 58 days to finally say yes to a royal commission.
“Didn’t we say before that we would look at the panel report first? We’ve seen it and we feel it is necessary that we establish (the commission),” he said.
Source: Malaysiakini
He is surely a slow thinker at that and so was the 3-member panel , but as we always say it is better late than never. Its too bad that Pak Lah didn’t see advantages of forming a royal commission right from the start. Pity Pak Lah for he has …read more

VK Lingam video: Toothless panel redeemed its pride

VK Lingam video: Toothless panel redeemed its pride

Although the panel had received a lot critism, I think the powerless panel of three had redeemed itself in terms of pride when their reports finally revealed (in three separate reports) that a royal commission is required to get to the bottom of this scandal. The recommendation for a royal commission was a smart move by the panel after having to put up with so much pressure from the public.
The New Straits Times said the panel had concluded the clip – featuring senior lawyer VK Lingam purportedly brokering judicial appointments with a top judge – was authentic and should be …read more
