Senior Lawyer talking to Chief Justice: Smile… you are on candid camera
I read the latest news at Malaysiakini with my mouth wide opened and jaw dropped… awed by another Malaysia Boleh spirit that should not have been in the first place.
An explosive video clip showing senior lawyer VK Lingam in a telephone conversation allegedly with Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim discussing the appointment of judges was released today.
The eight-minute clip, which was taken in 2002, was made public by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim today.
Among the matters being discussed were the appointment of Ahmad Fairuz as the Chief Judge of Malaya and his promotion as the Chief Justice.
At the time Ahmad Fairuz was the Chief Judge of Malaya, in charge of all High Court judges in Peninsular Malaysia.
It also recorded a conversation between Lingam and Ahmad Fairuz discussing which judges should be promoted and that “loyal” Ahmad Fairuz should be rewarded with a promotion.
Anwar said the video proved that his appeals against his sodomy and abuse of power convictions were tainted and that he was denied a proper and fair trial.
Anwar, however, did not disclose the person who took the video.
Lingam could not be contacted for comment. His office said that he was abroad and is only due back later this month.

There will be many implications of this revelation if proven to be true, causing more damages to the already-dented image of Malaysian judiciary system and Malaysian Government. In the end, there will be a damning question as to who is behind all these shameful acts of abuse of power. In case you forgot, Anwar was fired by Mahathir in September 1998, allegedly for his involvement in sodomy and abuse of power. Hold your breadth for more news at Malaysiakini…. news and views that matter.
This has got to be the ‘best’ gift for our 50th year of independence…. Malaysiaku Gemilang.
