IWK the biggest polluter in Peninsular Malaysia

IWK the biggest polluter of Malaysian environmentI read today’s Star newspaper with shock. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid had revealed that Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) is the biggest polluter in Peninsular Malaysia.

The following excerpt is from IWK’s website:

Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd, a national sewerage company, wholly-owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, is responsible for providing sewerage services, operating and maintaining over 9,100 public sewage treatment plants, 16,000km networks of sewerage pipelines and providing scheduled desludging services to over 350,000 individual septic tanks in Malaysia since April 1994.

So here you go Malaysians. The main culprit is the Government-owned company itself. IWK is supposed to make the environment better but what happened is just the opposite.. at the expense of our money… yes your money and my money.

Describing the situation as “very bad,” Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said that IWK had not done its job anywhere it operated.

“Ninety one percent of pollution of rivers in the country is from inadequately-treated sewage,” he said.

So the remaining questions are…. what are you going to do about it Datuk Azmi? Or are you now waiting for Water, Energy and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik to reply to your statement and start pointing fingers to one another just like many other national issues involving many other ministries?

Or are you now going to waste millions more of public money to come up with another new campaign to educate the public about the environment? And are you now going to let this corporate criminal off the hook just because it is owned by the Government?

Malaysians want answers from you Datuk Seri Azmi…..
