Ijok buy-election: BN’s purchasing power vs PKR’s ‘pur-chasing’ power

Even before the nomination day, BN already splashed RM36 million worth of projects that the Chief Minister of Selangor claimed have been planned for sometime. Almost overnight, the Selangor State Government machinery became efficient instantly. Ijok had turned from just a passing-by route to center of attractions almost instantly. Bulldozers, trucks, lorries and workers were seen everywhere round the clock. Ijok residents suddenly have new roads, new this and new that… after all the BN-led State Government had allocated RM36 million for the people of Ijok. Such is the purcasing power of the government of the day, no wonder Ijok’s BN candidate is always seen smiling from ear to ear everytime I see him on the telivision news.

On the other side of equation, PKR has its own pur-chasing power in trying to buy votes from the people of Ijok, although the power can’t really buy new roads and a plethora of other instant projects as offered by the BN. Nevertheless, the PKR’s pur-chasing power is something that are always haunting the BN whenever the two parties clash in either general- or by-elections. Here are what PKR’s have in their chest to chase the BN from Ijok:

  • Deputy Prime Minister DatNajib’s trouble in relation to Atlantuya’s murder case
  • Corruption issue surrounding Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom
  • RM36 million buy-election spending spree by Selangor State Government
  • Issues surrounding the increase of toll charges and toll concessionaire agreements
  • Transparency of SPR, the body that is entrusted to conduct fair elections in Malaysia
  • Rising living cost
  • In-effectiveness of New Economic Policy that translates to crony capitalism
  • And many more issues affecting people from all walks of life, see one of the people’s wishlist ….

It’s interesting to see how different purchasing power can affect people differently. The following picture (courtesy of Zaid Akhtar) shows what a BN supporter had turned himself (unconsciously I assume) into is somewhat funny but amazing when considering what a buy-election that comes with RM36 million purchasing power can do to a person.

Apparently, this song (Courtesy of VCWS via YouTube) had caused the chaos during the nomination day.

Between these two purchasing and pur-chasing powers, the real powers are really in the hands of Ijok voters… exercise your rights and vote wisely.
