BN won in Ijok

BN won Ijok by-electionWith the majority of 1,850, BN had retained the Ijok constituency in what must be one of the fiercest by-election battle in Malaysian election history. BN’s MIC candidate K Parthiban bagged 5,884 votes while PKR’s Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, 4,034. With 83.08% voters cast their votes, the voters turn-out is said to be one of the highest in by-election history.

I went to Ijok after lunch today and just came back very exhausted. Nevertheless, I have loads of pictures and videos to share, however I will only be able to do that tomorrow. There have been many interesting happenings on the day Ijok people went out to choose their representative.

I managed to reach Ijok just in time to witness the chaos in front of Ijok police station where two buses that were allegedly carrying phantom voters were being quarantined in the police station. The main junction near the police station were at the standstill with lots of people wanting to get near the police station to have closer glimpse at the buses from Penang. However, heavy presence of the Federal Reserve Unit personnels and police force prevented the public from getting near the entrance of the police station.

I also managed to squeeze myself into the media personnel group and was able to shoot some videos of Wan Azizah and Tian Chua who had arrived at the police station only to be surrounded by the reporters wanting to get their comment about the phantom voters.

I will write more tomorrow after having a good rest from a tiring journey covering the later part of voting day in Ijok. PKR had lost the by-election to BN but there are still many interesting stories, pictures and videos to share especially at the vote counting center. Stay tuned!
