Banning advertisement of fast food to combat obesity… Ministry of Health draws criticsm

The Malaysian Ministry Of Health’s recent proposal to ban fast food advertisement to combat obesity had drawn criticism from every quarter involved, except from the Minister himself. This is another classic example of Malaysian authority’s incompetency in handling th real issue. To me this is really shallow thinking. Fast food is not the only cause of obesity. Normal foods also contribute to overweight. I won’t list all those foods here because I am sure you know what I mean. The issue at hand here is the short-sightedness of a Malaysian minister, or whoever that had avised the minister, in tackling real problem.

Malaysian authorities had lately been announcing quite unpopular and unlogical measures to tackle national problems. In another case involving Ah-Long (the illegal money lending syndicate who are well known for using tugs and gangster to recover their loans), the police department had proposed to punish the persons who borrowed money from such money lenders instead of going after the Ah-Long themselves.

And now, they want to ban advertisement of fast food to tackle obesity. I can’t understand the logic… can you?
