Happy New Year 2008

Happy New Year 2008

I thought this is too early for a new year wish but since I will be taking a short break away with my family… it looks like this blog will not be updated for some time until 2nd Jan 2008. By that time, we are already well into 2008 so I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my readers a very Happy New Year. I pray to God that 2008 will be a prosperous year for all of us. I wish all of you the very best in all your undertakings throughout the new year of 2008.

KLiH wishes all Muslims a very happy Eid ul-Adha

Today is a big day for Muslims all over the world as they celebrate Eid ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice.
What is Eid al-Adha
At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). In 2007, Eid al-Adha will begin on approximately December 19th, and will last for three days.
What does Eid al-Adha commemorate?
During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham. The Qur’an describes Abraham as follows:
“Surely Abraham was an example, obedient to Allah, by nature upright, and he was not …read more

Pak Lah: I am duty-bound to act because the people want the Government to act…

Pak Lah: I am duty-bound to act because the people want the Government to act…

It is obvious that this Prime Minister of Malaysia, used to be known as Mr. Clean a.k.a Mr. Nice Guy, is under pressure and he can’t take it anymore. How else can you explain his recent move to slap the infamous Internal Security Acts (ISA) on Hindraf leaders with a 2-year detention without trial that did not even go through the normal procedures for invoking the fearful draconian act many had been trying to pressure the Malaysian Government to abolish.
Normally, an ISA detainee will be held under Section 73 of the Act which allows a person to be detained for …read more

The humble Kelantan Chief Minister Nik Aziz Nik Mat (Ayah Zid) and JKR 10 residence

This pious Kelantan Chief Minister, known as Ayah Zid among the Kelantanese (yours truly included), actually has an official Chief Minister residence more popularly known as JKR 10 in Kota Bharu. But being a humble Menteri Besar he is, Ayah Zid chooses not to live at the official Chief Minister residence. Instead he chooses to live in his own house in Pulau Melaka (where yours truly was born and grew up). Ayah Zid only stays at the official residence JKR 10 occassionally.
Ayah Zid proves he is a worthy Islamic leader yet again when he allows his official residence JKR 10 …read more

PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III)

PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III)

The PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III) started 30th Nov 2007 and will end tomorrow 16th December 2007. I spent the whole morning at the Kuala Lumpur’s leg of PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III) held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) last Sunday. The three-times a year fair (used to be held annualy) is just getting bigger every year… if you attend the one at the KLCC, be prepared to walk for kilometers to cover the whole lot of booths selling nothing else but IT stuff.

Malaysian government exercises its human rights….. to detain human rights activists

Malaysian government exercises its human rights….. to detain human rights activists

10th December 2007 was supposed to be the International Human Rights Day. However, due to pressure from the police and the Malaysian Government, the Malaysian Bar Council forego their rights to assemble and cancelled a planned walk for human rights freedom. The Malaysian Government, on the other hand, exercised their human rights unhindered by denying the rights of Malaysian human rights activists, led by a group of Malaysian Bar Council ‘defiant’ lawyers, to exercise their rights. Sounds all too confusing? I don’t blame you….

Weekend trip to Malacca: Pictures and video

Weekend trip to Malacca: Pictures and video

I was in Malacca for a one-day trip recently and here are some pictures and a video for you to enjoy. In general Malacca is a nice historical state to visit. The city is clean and there are a lot of things you can do in Malacca.

We stopped at the city center and walked around near the river and Jonker Street. You can take a river boat tour there however the river is not too pleasant to the eyes. We gave that one a miss.
